QFD PROSECUTION
The Slacks Creek fire in 2023 was a tragedy which resulted in the loss of life of 1st Class Firefighter Izzy Nash and seriously injured Senior Firefighter Lia Drew. The thoughts of the QPFU then and now are with their colleagues, friends and families.
The QPFU has been made aware that the Office of Work Health and Safety Prosecutor has commenced proceedings against the Queensland Fire Department in relation to the Slacks Creek Fire.
The Workplace Health Safety Queensland report into the matter has not yet been released, so we have not been able to review it at this time.
We understand that it is the product of significant investigation over the last two years and is likely to be substantial. When it is made available we will notify all members via Code 2, and we will also provide you with any other important information.
