QPFU remembers Sub-Station Officer Herbie Fennell and Firefighter Noel Watson – Killed in the Line of Duty 11 February 1994
On 11 February 2026, we observe the 32nd anniversary of the Southport Honda fire, a tragic incident in which Sub-Station Officer Herbie Fennell and Firefighter Noel Watson lost their lives in the line of duty.
Today, I encourage everyone to take a moment to pause and reflect honouring their courage, their service, and the families and friends who continue to carry their memory.
A memorial stone and picnic area dedicated to their sacrifice can be found in Cascade Gardens, adjacent to the Surfers Paradise Fire Station.
Herbie and Noel, your legacy endures. You will forever be remembered by your fellow firefighters.
