Helmets and communications – Update

Following an exchange of letters between myself and the Commissioner over the past week, I can report the following:

•    I recommended the Acting Deputy Commissioner be removed from handling these matters, and
•    I obtained written confirmation F3 parts can be ordered, and
•    QFD are struggling to handle the simple administrative process for parts ordering (I am not suggesting they are deliberately stalling on honouring their commitment, but the delay is unusual), and
•    The Commissioner continues to refer to the ‘status quo’ which is a curious and deliberate attempt to avoid any commitment in writing about ordering new or replacement F3 helmets, and
•    I strongly suggested the Commissioner and I meet about all of this and their lack of ability to look after your safety.

At that meeting, I will very clearly outline your union’s position and expectations regarding the following:
•    Member’s concerns about the helmet and communications MUST be taken seriously, and
•    Members must be able to order a new / replacement F3 should they need one, and
•    For the first time ever, QFD will need to take seriously these issues and work WITH the QPFU, instead of against them, to sort out what works and what doesn’t.

I will report back to you after I have had the meeting with the Commissioner.
